5 Seconds: Arts & Media delivers a varietal range of services but all to accomplish the single goal of finding the story, telling it forward, and communicating “through all things Jesus.” Whether writing & editorial, photography & marketing, or speaking & singing, as a “muti-passionate” artist engaging multi-media platforms, I embrace everything from the mundane (we’ll make it sing) to the kaleidoscopic, poetic projects that have never seen the inside of a standard box.
Why “5 Seconds”: In 2019, actor/activist Jon Stewart delivered a speech imploring congress to compensate 9/11 responders, in which he stated the following:
“The official FDNY response time for 9/11 was five seconds, five seconds. That’s how long it took for FDNY, for NYPD, for Port Authority, for EMS to respond to an urgent need from the public, five seconds.”
He went on to remind that of those responders, hundreds died in an instant, and thousands more poured in for them. Responders, even civilians, just “people”…kept responding. As long as the need remained.
I am a firm believer in purpose and the “all things work[ing] together.” I believe in a God who not only weaves that in our lives if we invite Him to do so, but in the promise that these efforts “will not return empty, but accomplish the purpose.” The work may be innocuous or innovative, but God can use anything, anyone, any moment or meeting as the domino that puts meaningfulness in motion. For this reason, I’m committed to “respond” to the “need,” perhaps not in “five seconds” but with “urgent” spirit, knowing God always has purpose, seen or unseen, and I strive to serve it.
