WHY 5 SECONDS: In 2019, actor/activist Jon Stewart delivered a SPEECH imploring congress to compensate 9/11 responders, in which he stated the following: “The official FDNY response time for 9/11 was five seconds, five seconds. That’s how long it took for FDNY, for NYPD, for Port Authority, for EMS to respond to an urgent need from the public, five seconds.” He went on to remind that of those responders, hundreds died in an instant, and thousands more poured in for them. Responders, even civilians – everyday people – kept responding as long as the need remained.
I’m committed to responding to others for a similar reason, believing God wants to “work all things together for good,” promising efforts “will not return empty, but accomplish the purpose for which it was sent,” able to use anything, anyone, any moment, from innocuous to innovative, as the domino that puts meaningful things in motion.
